چکیده

In this paper, we consider a network of N identical IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) terminals with RTS/CTS mechanism, each of which is assumed to be saturated. For performance analysis, we propose a simple and efficient mathematical model to derive the statistical characteristics of the network such as the inter-transmission time of packets in the network and the service time (the inter-transmission time of successful packet transmissions) of the network. Numerical results and simulations are provided to validate the accuracy of our model and to study the performance of the IEEE 802.11 DCF network. key words: Wireless Local Area Network, IEEE 802.11, Distributed Coordination Function, Performance Analysis, Medium Access Delay

Performance Analysis of IEEE 802.11 Non-Saturated DCF

In the IEEE 802.11MAC layer protocol, the basic access method is the Distributed Coordination Function which is based on the CSMA/CA. In this paper, we investigate the performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF in the non-saturation condition. We assume that there is a fixed number n of competing stations and packet arrival process to a station is a poisson process. We model IEEE 802.11 DCF in non-saturati...

Semi-Markov Process Formulation of IEEE 802.11 DCF Analytic Performance Models

Probably no protocol has been analyzed as much as the various versions of the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). In this paper, we show how to describe a typical DCF analytic model as a semi-Markov process (SMP). We do this at the hand of an example IEEE 802.11 network in Basic Access mode under both saturated and unsaturated traffic conditions. We show how to solve the corres...

Performance Anomaly of the IEEE 802.11 DCF in Different Frame Error Rate Conditions

We propose an analytic model to compute the station’s saturated throughput and packet delay performance of the IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) in which frame transmission error rates in the channel are different from each other. Our analytic model shows that a station experiencing worse frame error rates than the others suffers severe performance degradation below its deserv...

Per-node throughput and fairness analysis of IEEE 802.11 wireless networks with hidden nodes

This work seeks to develop an analytical model for the per-node throughput analysis of IEEE 802.11 WLAN networks with hidden nodes by extending Bianchi’s model. With the analytic model we derive the per-node throughput of each node and quantify the impact of hidden nodes on per-node throughput. Through our analysis, we find that nodes having more hidden nodes are likely to have worse throughput...

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
